What's New with the too?

Spring Tour, Summer Music Festivals, Fall Cross Canada Tour, Ontario Tour,
I last updated this site in March which was a whole other lifetime ago, I'll summarize that time in brief vignettes.
Spring Tour with orangutan
My bi-annual tour from Toronto to Banff was a solo affair (musically) but the drive, memories, and experiences were shared with the legendary orangutan whom just completed his E.P. "In the Wild" and subsequently promoted it with a solo Spring tour to the Rocky Mountains avec moi!. Check out his E.P. it's pretty much one of the best things I've ever heard. He may or may not also play with a band called Flying Eyes; regardless if he does or not have a goose and a gander at the video for House on Fire Just fucking brilliant! This was my first solo tour in a while and I tested out my wurly chops and adorned an electric guitar for the first time since I was 16. The shows varied from amazing to terrible. For some reason the old folks at Mikey's Juke Joint in Calgary hated me! Which is fine because I hated them, and just for clarification Mikey... You can't be a white guy in Calgary with racist clientele and call your bar a Juke joint! Nice try though, check out the definition for a Juke Joint and maybe go for a renovation!
Summer Festivals - South Country Fair, Sasquatch, ArtsWells, Canmore Indie Festival
Festival season was a smashing success, I first joined Andrea Ramolo and Jason at the South Country Fair where I played harmonica with her and had way too much fun thanks to some baked goods from friends from Medicine Hat. Verdict... The United Steel Workers of Montreal are the best touring band in the country right now! Rocked the fair, oh and I fell in love with Shaela Miller's song "Loving Me" when she did a tweener on the main stage. Other highlights include Scott Cook (both the man and his music, this man can function while messed up!).
Next up was The Sasquatch Gathering where my band (Jason Skiendziel, Matt Blackie, Sarah Burton, Jesse Dee, Jacquie, B, and Andrea Ramolo) had the headlining slot on Saturday night at 2:00 am. Nature wanted us to wait a bit and relayed her message by throwing a huge storm at us that shut down the festival. After an hour of waiting the storm out, we rocked people's faces off thanks to my awesome band and the fact that we had a bar and bartender (Andrea Ramolo) on stage. Andrea was doing a fine job lighting up Absinthe shots to keep us lit up. From what I recall at about 5:30 am I invited a very sideways Scott Cook on stage by introducing him as the "Heart of Alberta" he drunkenly, but beautifully serended what was left of the crowd to a Corin Raymond song: "Paid to Party"... Yes we did, paid well, and delivered well. Hire us for your next party!
ArtWells is so amazing I moved to Wells! It's true I'm a Wellshian, or whatever, I think I'm person number 257. Big thanks and appreciation to Paul and Julie and all the other festival organizers and workers and all the musicians that make ArtsWells the best festival in the country. Yeah I said it.... It's because it's true.. check it out for yourself. Jesse Dee and Jacquie B have a great Video blog where you can follow much of my progress and shenanigans during the summer and fall. Check out "The Blackie Reel" from Sasquatch and get a glimpse of what it's like to tour with Blackie, Also check out their ArtsWells blog where you can actually see the exact moment where I fell in love with Wells and decided to move there. It's magic!
Fall Tour with Jesse Dee and Jacquie B
Please Youtube "Motorcycle Weed Fairy" to sum up our tour in five minutes and thirty six seconds. I was convinced that nothing cool could ever happen in my home town of Pickering, I can't tell you how wrong I was. We started in Edmonton and played a few great shows with Heather Blush and the Uppercuts at the Haven Social Club in Edmonton and then at the Ironwood in Calgary. Heather is one of the best modern Jazz/Folk singers around.. anywhere, her songs are...well...amazing, great guitar player, amazing voice, really really really witty and poignant lyrics.. A real Gem.. If you like Jazz but can't remember the last time a contemporary Jazz lyricist said anything of importance please check out Heather. Thanks for the stiff drink PJ by the way! We went from Edmonton to St John's and played most points in between, again check out Jesse Dee and Jacquie B'ssite with all the video blogs from across the country and beyond!

C'est What show and Studio Shenanigans
The ides of March have arrived, and there is much ado about lots of things for me. Firstly and foremostly I've got a show this Thursday March 19th at C'est What in Toronto alongside my friends The Strip, and orangutan. Come by and support if you can, I'll be playing with my band and it will likely be one of my last shows in Toronto before I leave for my summer residence in Banff, AB.
In addition, I somehow wrangled together a recording session at Canterbury Studio in Toronto when I realized that the musicians that I wanted to play on the E.P. were soon to scatter themselves across the continent...sniffle. The session went great thanks to all the great musicians that I conned into playing for me. I, on the other hand, was sick and working on no sleep (damn nerves). I was so stellar that at one point during the session our engineer and so-called friend Sam Ibbett quipped "ory...do you even know your own songs?". Thankfully the beds tracks sound amazing and I have a chance to heal up and learn to sing again in time to add my parts to the songs. Thanks to all my amazing friends who came together and saved my ass: Jason Skiendziel, Matt Blackie, Sarah Burton, Matthew John McCleland, and Sam Ibbett. I love and respect these people so much (although you wouldn't be able to tell by how I paid them). Thanks again guys and gals! I'll update everyone on the progress of the record as it comes!

Northern Ontario Tour II with Cindy Doire
I just got back from another little tour with Cindy Doire and The Ol' Religion, and when I say I just got back I mean I got back a week ago and when we got high yesterday I thought we got back 2 weeks ago! Make Sense? Not supposed to, welcome to my world. Anyway more solo shows, possible New Years shenanigans, ski tour in the New Year, recording with "The Switz", etc. Keep checking back for a packed 2008! Happy Hollow Days!
Thursday November 1st, 2007
the ory no'man too @ C'est What? (67 Front St. E.) - Wednesday November 7th 2007
Join us for our Toronto homecoming show @ C'est What on Wednesday November 7th @ 9:00 with guests Sarah Burton, and Melissa Larkin.
Summer and Fall Update
Finally the site is up to date! I (ory) moved out to Alberta for the summer and had little chance to devote time to the updating of the website. Living 30 km's from Banff, Alberta in a cabin without communication devices has both it's advantages and disadvantages. Needless to say the summer went well with appearances by the ory no'man too at some festivals out west including: The 2007 North Country Fair, and a surprise appearance at The 2007 South Country Fair thanks to the Elliot Brood boys. I also completed a mini tour of Alberta and Saskatchewan with Sarah Burton, was showcased at The Canmore Indie Music Festival, and hit some cities across Canada with The Tom Glenne 5.5 on my way back to Toronto.
Tuesday April 17th, 2007
Northern Ontario Tour with Cindy Doire
We are excited to be embarking on a small weekend tour of Northern Ontario with stops in Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins, and Sudbury this weekend, details in the shows section. Come on out if you can!

the ory no'man too showcase for Canadian Music Week 2007 Thursday March 8th @ The Savannah Room
We are honoured to be able to be a part of the 2007 Canadian Music Week festivities with a showcase @ The Savannah Room on Thursday March 8th.
the ory no'man too @ C'est What? (67 Front St. E.) - Saturday March 10th 2007
We're going to be tearin' the roof off of C'est What? on Sat. March 10th and would enjoy it extremely if everyone could join in on the party. We're going to be recording the evening and will be joined by the talented Pat Robitaille and Cindy Doire.
There are tickets available for the show and I suggest that if you want to come that you request them from either ory, Jason, or Cindy as we are sure that this night is going to sell out (I wouldn't say so if I didn't believe it...trust me). antimattr, whom is the creative force behind this website, will be celebrating his birthday with us and Miss Cindy Doire is going to bring in a film crew that will be documenting her performance as part of a spotlight on French Canadian artists. The last time we were at C'est What was unbelievable and this time will be more of the same! Which is a nice segue into...
the ory no'man too live @ C'est What? 2007-01-13
We've just finished packaging our live recording from C'est What? and we've got them available for sale, loan, barter, etc! Heather Wighton created all the wonderful artwork for the disc, and the disc contains the complete unedited set from the show! Nothing added, nothing taken away! We had a blast that night and were joined by the talented Kamila from the Saskatoon based band The Cracker Cats of which you should most certainly check out! We'll be selling them for $5.00 to the cheap bastards our there, and $10.00 to people that want to support our healthy eating habits! Just drop us a line if you want one, and I'll be putting them up for sale on-line when I can figure out how to, and when I find the time!
ory no'man solo @ Boom Shiva (1180 Queen St. West) every Wednesday!
Come down to Boom Shiva every Wednesday to enjoy a fine selection of alcoholic beverages and some AMAZING vegetarian cuisine. I'll be starting the night's at about 9:00 and will have special guests join me every week!
Saturday February 10th, 2007
the ory no'man too on IndieCan
On February 2nd 2007 the ory no'man too were fortunate enough to spend the late afternoon with Joe, Sam, and the rest of the crew of IndieCan at Redline Studios. Much thanks directed at the lovely folks at IndieCan who made us feel right at home in their wonderful space. You can catch us on Episode #32 which can be streamed or downloaded and saved all for the reasonable price of...FREE! Check out the show and what IndieCan is doing, which is great things for Indie musicians and fans alike!
the ory no'man too @ Ciao Edie Roxxx (489 College) - Saturday February 17th 2007
Come on out to Ciao Edie Roxxx this Saturday February 17th, we'll be opening up the show at about 9:00pm so come early! Our good friend Emer just got added to the bill, all the more reason to take in a Saturday night with us!
I'd also like to thank Matt (a.k.a. antimattr) for giving our home on the internet a much needed renovation!
Monday January 29th, 2007
Lots of exciting news to relate to everyone!
Firstly, we'll be playing an awesome show this Thursday Feb 1st, so come join us at the Savannah Room (294 College, just west of Spadina) for a most excellent line-up of talent from all across the country! (er...well...Alberta and Quebec at least). the ory no'man too will open up for Calgary-based Cam Penner And The Gravel Road, Quebec-based Swift Years, and Toronto-based Bare Bones. I'm excited...you should be too.
Much thanks to C'est What (67 Front St. East) and Crispin for their part in an awesome show we played at C'est What on January 13th, 2007. The show featured special guest Kamila from the Saskatoon-based band The Cracker Cats on Mandolin. Thanks to Crispin, the whole show was recorded and it sounds great! We've enlisted our friend Heather Wighton (much thanks) to do some artwork for the live show and It's lookin' awesome and is almost complete.
We've pretty much decided (well, almost) to leave the show completely intact and unedited—nothing added, nothing taken away. I'm not too much of a fan of artists releasing "live" shows that are edited and overdubbed, it seems, well, quite un-live really. Some of my formative musical years revolved around catching live shows of bands that I liked at the time and collecting full and intact live shows from them. I feel that, even though there are mistakes, blemishes, etc., that the character and entirety of a full set is much more desirable than something chopped up and pieced together again. Hopefully the listeners will understand and appreciate this, if not...sorry :).
All that being said, I'm going to be putting a track or two on our MySpace page and there is already a video up on there of some highlights of our show.
We'll let everyone know when it's ready to be released, so check back on our website and myspace and keep that inbox in the "open" position!
We're also really excited to announce that we will be playing a showcase for the 2007 Canadian Music Week Festival on March 8th, more details to come! This is a great opportunity to show a city abuzz with industry types what we can do, so any support would be greatly appreciated! Check out the festival website, where you'll find the schedule, artist bios, as well as information on tickets and wristbands. Wristbands are $35, and that entitles you to more of the best Canadian music that you can handle for an extended weekend!
During the same week we'll also be playing a very special show with friends Pat Robitaille and Cindy Doire @ C'est What on March 10th, 2007, so mark that date on your calendar, it's going to be an awesome night of acoustic music with two other extremely talented young players.
Thanks again for everyone's continued support—we've been extremely lucky to be able to continue doing what we do, and it wouldn't be able to happen without so many people's help and support!
Sunday January 28th, 2007
It's been quite the year so far for happenings! We played a most pleasureable show at C'est What on Saturday January 13th and got a damn good recording out of it. I'm going to post some of the tracks on our MySpace page as time and obligations allow. We were lucky enough to be joined by a most special guest; Kamila from the Saskatoon based band The Cracker Cats who proceeded to tear #$@up with us for a few tunes!
Friday November 24th, 2006
Much thanks to Nik Beat and Michael Palumbo for hooking us up with another Radio Slot on CIUT 89.5 radio. On this excursion we played on the show: Howl with Nik Beat, which airs from 11:00 pm to 12:00 am, and played a few tunes live-to-air. Our good friend Orangutan acted as our official videographer and recorded the whole incident, and for that we are most grateful. We're going to post the video's on our MySpace Page in the blog section. We're also going to be playing a bunch of local Toronto area shows and also embarking on our specialized form of guerilla touring where we have a few dates (check the shows section) and then play everywhere and anywhere along the way.
Monday October 30th, 2006
the ory no'man too was proud to be able to play on CIUT 89.5 radio show Take 5 today with Andy Frank and host Lisa Marshall. ory and Jason played a few songs live-to-air and talked about our recent tour and upcoming show at The Savannah Room on Thursday November 2nd @ 9:00 p.m., with guests Ben Spencer, Barbara Adler, and Brendan Mcleod.
Friday September 22nd, 2006
the ory no'man too
Due to the overwhelming success of the last tour ory no'man and bassist Jason Skiendziel will again tour Canada as a duo from Victoria to Toronto and most points in between spreading their brand of subtle in-your-face alt-folk rock to the yearning masses of roots rock fanatics! Our deepest gratitute to all those that helped us out along the way with places to crash, food to eat, drinks, and merriment. Without all the support we received the tour would not have been possible.
Details on tour dates are available the shows section of the website!
Saturday August 19th, 2006
Thanks alot to everyone who showed up at the Tour Fundraiser last night and made it a huge success! In fact, before I take off for the Western skies I often long for, I want to really thank everyone who's been supporting me since I came to Toronto. I've been lucky to link up with such a strong community of like-minded artists, musicians, cherished friends, and supporters. It's kind of nice having come full circle in my life, back to the place where I started from, and after having run away on such bitter terms, to come back to my own little slice of success (If only in my mind). I guess success for me is being able to play music while growing and developing at a realistic and manageable pace. I have no desire to get discovered by anyone else but myself and forture and fame to me will be a sustainable career in music where I reach my potential as an artist under my own terms. I revel in the fact that I am the purveyor of my own future, success and growth are directly linked to my hard work and dedication; not in the hands of those who seek to gain profit over people's art without the necessary love and appreciation for the work and it's creator. Thanks again everyone you're all a part of me as I wouldn't be me without you.
Friday August 4th, 2006
Busy Times Friends! ory's goin' on tour, playin lots of shows. Say Bon Voyage at our Tour Benefit Concert @ Ciao Edie Roxx on August 18th.
The Trillium Treason Tour
the ory no'man too will be joining forces with Sarah Burton, Stacy Burke, Cort, and a host of others to fight for the plight of the original Trillium logo that the Ontario Government has wasted hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to change. In a blatant political manuever the Liberal Government is attempting to change the much loved symbol of Ontario since 1964 to a new Trillium graphic that resembles the logo of the Ontario Liberal Party. This is no coincidence since they hired a Liberal friendly ad agency to create the new logo! The Trillium Treason Tour will seek to spread the word abour the endagered symbol of the province to people all across the country in an effort to save our trillium!
Saturday July 22nd, 2006
the ory no'man too
ory no'man and bassist Jason Skiendziel will tour Canada as a duo from Victoria to Toronto and most points in between spreading their brand of subtle in-your-face alt-folk rock to the yearning masses of roots rock fanatics! Details on the "shows" section of the wbsite!

In response to the recent campaign by the The Friends of Animals that is boycotting Canada because of it's annual seal hunt, ory no'man has started the campaign "I won't play in the U.S.A." in which a growing number of artists are boycotting visiting the U.S.A. until the government stops it's daily bombing the crap out of the rest of the world. Adding momentum to his campaign is the fact his statement at least rhymes and can be chanted (try chanting "I Won't Per-form in Ca-Na-Da" three times fast.
In comparison to the "I won't perform in Canada" campaign which has chosen an arbitrary animal to "Save", the campaign "I won't play in the U.S.A" aims to save the rest of the world from the tyrannical wrath of a murderous super-power.
ory no'man and the rest of the committee could have just as easily chosen any of the number of animals routinely slaughtered in the the USA and well everywhere else in the gosh-darn world where animals are slaughtered, but instead they decided that maybe a boycott for a GOOD reason might be in order.
ory no'man has issued an ultimatum to the American government that unless the U.S.A. stops bombing random countries into democracy that he, and the undersigned will not, I repeat NOT perform in the U.S.A. "They are boycotting us because some newfie's kill a few seals so they can make a living in a barren wasteland of an island, and we'll boycott them for killing the crap out of people around the world: which campaign do you choose?".
Armed with his new mission in life ory has realized the potential for prosperity in the new "Boycotted Canada". He theorizes that maybe clubs and radio stations might start to play Canadian music since everyone (Morrisey and Nelly Mckay) has boycotted Canada. ory wondered if this campaign was the brainchild of the same individual that attempted to change "French Fries" to "Freedom Fries" in response to the French not wanting to kill the crap out of innocent people.
A lacto ova pesca vegetarian and animal rights activist himself, ory no'man is pissed off that artist(s) that he admires are so ridiculously narrow minded and somewhat random in their boycott of an ENTIRE COUNTRY based upon the killing of one specific animal. "Why not cows?" ory no'man asks, "why don't artists boycott all countries that slaughter cows? Why are SEALS so much more important than any other animal that they warrant a boycott of an ENTIRE COUNTRY."
In addition to the "I won't play in the U.S.A." ory no'man has condemned Sweden for it's quest to bring it's lack of style to the rest of the world through it's "Hideous" IKEA stores and therefore "I will not play in Sweden" was announced. Coincidentally a similar campaign has been added to protest the lack of identity and autonomy of the United Kingdom (U.(k).S.A) being the lap dog that it is, to the U.S.A.; in it's backing of invading a country for no good reason, and then when finding out that even the no good reason (Weapons of Mass Destruction/It's Involvement in the 9/11 Plot) was a fictional story created by the FBI, STILL backing the occupation of what once was a sovereign country with a dictator that had WAY more bark than bite.
Other campaigns are in the works and any additions to the list of countries that Canadian artists can boycott for random reasons (i.e. boycotting Germany because their citizens actually LIKE the music of David Hasselhoff and John Tesh) can be sent to info@orynoman.ca. Please note that only the WORST reasons to boycott countries will be included in our list. Please e-mail the same address if you are a Canadian artist and wish to be added to the growing list of artists that are boycotting random places for random reasons.

ory no'man is busy getting schooled! No not by Corb Lund silly, by the wonderful instructors at the Independent Music Production program at Seneca College, located in picturesque North York. ory is currently learning to use all the expensive equipment he's collected over the years through the generous contributions by the Government's of: Canada, Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario. Thank you for inadvertantly supporting the arts in your communities!

Live and direct from Canada's Chicago; the windy city of Winnipeg, ory and the AAC boys and girls are getting geared up (and getting the van repaired) for the return haul home to Victoria, where they've just confirmed what is sure to be a triumphant homecoming at Steamers Pub, 6 weeks to the day from whence it all began. If you're in the Victoria area on Thursday, 13 October, be sure to swing by and check it out. Things sure have changed and evolved since that first night you joined us. Back once again for the party will be a newly reunited One Less Felon, as the AAC lets go of the reins they've had on M.D. Wren for the past few weeks.
For those of you outside the Victoria area, check out the shows page and come out to party with us if we're in your area. Next weekend's looking pretty jampack'd, with 4 shows in 4 cities in 3 provinces in 4 days. phew! if current plans see fruition it will soon become 5 shows/cities/days.
A big thank you once again to everybody who's come out to the shows thus far. the band has had a blast, and hopes you have too. See you again soon!
Wednesday September 14th, 2005
Greetings from the road! ory is currently getting some much needed rest before tomorrows long haul from calgary to regina in order to rock McNally's Tavern. 3rd time's a charm!
The tour with the Artistic Arithmetic Collective is well under way, and the collaborative juices are flowing. Most recently ory reunited with former set REVOLUTION cohort Brian Rosen to roots rock reggae the Bow Valley. The first leg of the Western Canadian Alienation Tour will end tomorrow night with the Regina show, and a Prairie Roundup tour of Alberta is in the works as an interlude, before the gang heads back out east to Winnipeg for the westward bound portion of the WCA tour.
Many thanks to those who've come out to the shows thus far!
Monday August 1st, 2005
Coming out from premature hibernation in the SLOWcan Valley, ory is back in Victoria having just completed a successful fundraising show with the Artistic Arithmetic Collective. The collective will collaboratively set sail in September on their maiden voyage of artistic assualt on the unarmed Canadian public. Check out the dates in the SHOWS section.
Wednesday July 13th, 2005
After singlehandedly saving the North Country Fair from imminent disaster, ory has decided to go into hiding somewhere in the woods of the Slocan Valley. Rumour has it he's forraging for new songs. Search parties have been sent out to confirm or deny this fact.
In the meantime, check out the dates page for what looks to be the skeleton of a full on x-Canada (most of it, anyway) tour this fall with the Artistic Arithmetic Collective. Details are still sketchy, but it sounds like a force to be reckon'd with. keep checking back, we'll keep you updated.
next show's in two weeks!
Thursday June 23th, 2005
ory has officially hit the road on his way to the North Country Fair. Will he make the ferry to get off this island? Will the van survive the trek up to northern Alberta? And just what is the Artistic Arithmetic Collective anyhow?! ...check the shows section for clues. Answers will be forthcoming.
Some much needed downtime in July will lead to new material and clearer visions of future roads already being set.
Check out the dates in the shows section to see if ory is in a no'man's land near you!
